Vikings sweep Rams 12-2, 8-0
The Grayling Vikings won both games of a varsity softball doubleheader vs. the Harbor Springs Rams – a Lake Michigan Conference opponent – on Thursday night at Grayling High School.
Grayling defeated Harbor Springs 12-2 during game one of the series.
Jocelyn Brown pitched a complete game for the Vikings. She had eight strikeouts and one walk.
At the plate, Jenna Schwartz was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Sabrina Junttila was 2 for 4 with three runs scored. Kaylynn Childers was 2 for 2 with a double and one RBI. Kyla Roach was 1 for 1 with two runs scored and one stolen base.
In game two, the Vikings won 8-0 vs. the Rams.
Mallory Hatfield pitched a shutout for Grayling. She had seven strikeouts and one walk.
Schwartz hit another home run, tying the school record for most homers in a single season (four). Carmen Reilly was 1 for 1 with one run scored and one stolen base. Childers was 1 for 2 with three runs scored. Carlie Wilson was 1 for 3 with one run scored and two stolen bases.
“We pitched well. We played a lot better defense. When we do that, it seems to translate into better at bats for us. Seems like the better we play defense the better we hit the ball,” Coach Mark Golnick said. “Our pitching overall has been pretty good all year.”
The Vikings will play in a tournament at Houghton Lake on Saturday, May 19.
