Vikings build big lead early in 9-2 victory vs. Rams

The Grayling Vikings started strong vs. the Harbor Springs Rams during Wednesday’s varsity boys soccer game, scoring three goals in the first six minutes of regulation. The Vikings won the contest – a league match – by a final score of 9-2. Grayling High School hosted the game.
The Vikings led 3-0 at the 34:04 mark in the first half – a little less than six minutes into the contest – after getting goals from Ben Robbins, Anthony Harrington, and Mason Manning. With 20:14 left in the first half, Gabriel Nano scored for Grayling. The Vikings led 4-0.
Harbor Springs scored with 1:12 left in the first half.
At halftime, the score was Grayling 4, Harbor Springs 1.
Early in the second half – approximately six minutes into the 40-minute period – Nano scored for GHS. Ten minutes later, Nano scored again for the Vikings. With 21:08 left in the game, Louis Cotton scored for Grayling on a penalty kick after Garrett Reilly was fouled in the penalty box.
A minute later, at the 20:05 mark, Eliot Boik scored for the Vikings. Harbor Springs scored. With 9:20 left in regulation, Manning scored Grayling’s ninth goal of the night.
The Vikings won 9-2.
Coach Brad Wagner said his team “needed to change the way we challenged” for possession of the ball after the Elk Rapids game – a 5-1 loss on Monday night – and the players responded.
“Our guys just challenged balls, beat people to balls,” Coach Wagner said.
The Vikings (6-2-3 overall, 3-1-2 league) will host the Kalkaska Blazers on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m.
