The Grayling Vikings defeated the Harbor Springs Rams 3-0 during a Lake Michigan Conference varsity boys soccer game played at Grayling High School on Thursday night. With the victory, Grayling improved to 9-2 overall on the season.
With 15:41 left in the first half, Jesus Jimenez scored for Grayling on a pass from Mason Manning.
At halftime, the score was Vikings 1, Rams 0.
At the 29:44 mark in the second half, Manning scored for the Vikings, giving Grayling a 2-0 lead.
Approximately three minutes later, Grayling scored its third goal of the contest; Eliot Boik connected on a one-timer on a pass from Gilly Garcia, putting the ball into the net.
Neither squad scored in the final 26 minutes of regulation, and the Vikings won 3-0.
“We got off to a slow start today. We struggled with just hitting targets,” Coach Brad Wagner said. “Second half the fellas made a nice recovery and played really, really well.”
On Tuesday night, the Vikings played against Traverse City Christian at Traverse City. Grayling won 3-0.
Boik had two goals for the Vikings. Erid Feri had one goal.
“We played awesome,” Coach Wagner said. “I was worried about us being flat after the Elk loss. We asked them to communicate better and want the ball more than anyone else on the field, and they did.”
The game was tied at 0-0 with 20 minutes left when a lightning delay paused the action, Coach Wagner said. Grayling scored all three of its goals after the game resumed.
“Our guys did a good job of staying high, not coming down. They came out and played an awesome 20 minutes of soccer,” Coach Wagner said.
The Vikings (9-2 overall, 4-2 league) will play at Kalkaska at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 4.
