Dorothy Helen Hinkley, age 92, of Houghton Lake, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Grayling, Michigan, in the presence and comfort of her family.

Dot was born in Waynesboro, Georgia, the daughter of Ponder and Mae (Moore) Gay.

Dot married James Hinkley on December 19, 1964, in Utica, Michigan.

Dot was passionate about her grandchildren. She will always be remembered along with Jim of effortlessly taking on being the greatest “grandparents” and providing unforgettable memories. Dot’s greatest time was spent with her family. The family is so very appreciative of the care given to Dot during her short visit at Crawford Continuing Care Center.

Dot will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim, of 58 beautiful years of marriage; her daughter, Toni Gay Kaufman of Roscommon; grandchildren: Shannon (Eric) Bartok of Centerville, Tennessee, Heather (Brian) Stehle; great-grandchildren: Mateo, Ashlie, Emma, Nicholas, Price, Abigail, Allie; brother, Ken Gay of Macon, Georgia; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dot is preceded in death by her parents; Son, Rick; great-granddaughter, Marissa; brother, Bob; sisters: Bobbie and Gloria.

Dot’s family has chosen to remember her privately at this time.

Dot had an absolute love for her fur babies, “Brandi” “Candy” “Jodi” and “Missy,” which is why the family prefers memorial contributions be made in Dot’s name to Roscommon County Animal Shelter.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
