Rep. Rendon to be in Grayling on Feb. 10 - State Rep. Daire Rendon invites residents of the 103rd House District to meet with her in Grayling at Goodale’s Bakery, located at 500 Norway Street, from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10. Monthly euchre tournament to be held - The Frederic Parks and Recreation Committee will hold its monthly euchre tournament on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Frederic Township Hall, 6470 Manistee Street. Sign in will be held at 1 p.m. with games starting at 2 p.m. The entry fee is $20. Prize award depends on participation. All proceeds will benefit local parks and recreation projects.
COA to conduct Satellite Meal in Frederic - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal on Friday, Feb. 10, at noon at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch will include pepper steak, brown rice, stir fry vegetable, asparagus, and pineapple. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. Free divorce clinic offered - The 46th Judicial Circuit Bar Association, Legal Services of Northern Michigan, and Community Mediation Services will conduct a free divorce clinic at the Crawford County Courthouse at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. Legal Services staff attorneys will provide classroom instruction and volunteer attorneys will be available for private consultations. All forms will be supplied free to participants. Valentine’s Day Dinner to be held Feb. 9 - The public is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center’s Valentine’s Day Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 4-6 p.m. Meal will include prime rib, sweet scalloped potatoes, green bean blend, mandarin oranges, and brownies. The suggested donation for seniors 60 and over is $3. The price for those under 60 is $5. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street in Grayling. For more information call (989) 348-7123.
Foot Care Clinic to be held once per month - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center is offering a Foot Care Clinic the second Tuesday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Half hour appointments are provided by Comfort Keepers, where a registered nurse will soak the feet, trim and file toenails, lotion feet, provide foot care tips, and inspect feet for injury and circulation. Cost of the service is $25. Please bring two towels and a foot basin to soak feet. The foot clinic takes place at the Senior Center, which is located at 308 Lawndale Street. TEFAP food distribution slated for Feb. 6 - The quarterly TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) food distribution will be held on Monday, Feb. 6, at the American Legion (106 James Street in Grayling) from 1-2:30 p.m. Use the back door. Please bring someone to help carry bags if necessary. Also, please bring identification showing current address.
Senior center to host live bluegrass concert - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will host a free live concert featuring Barry Van Guilder, also known in bluegrass circles as “The Banjo Picker,” on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 5:45 p.m. There is no charge for this concert; however, donations are always appreciated. A beef enchilada dinner will be served before the concert. Cost is a $3 suggested donation for those 60 and over or $5 for those under 60. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. Chili cook-off to be held at Hanson Hills - The American Legion Auxiliary of Grayling will host a chili cook-off at the Hanson Hills Main Lodge on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will also include a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale.
Support group available for dementia caregivers - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Michigan Chapter, offers a support group for caregivers of people who have Alzheimer’s or other related dementias.  This support group is designed to provide an outlet for caregivers to talk, share, get support, and learn coping skills, and get education about these conditions. Local resident Donna Schnoor will be the facilitator. Meetings take place the third Wednesday of each month at the Brook of Grayling, 503 Rose Street, at 11 a.m. There is no charge to attend this group. If you have any questions or if you are unable to leave your loved one alone, Respite Care services are available by contacting the senior center at (989) 348-7123.
