The Tractor Supply Company store in Grayling held a soft opening rather than a full blown grand opening to help keep its employees and customers safe from the spread of COVID-19.
The Grayling Tractor Supply Company store, located at 2425 S. I 75 Business Loop, held its opening on Saturday, June 27.
The Grayling store is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
The Grayling Kmart store, located in the same building, closed on Sunday, December 15, of last year. The store had 35 employees when it announced the retailer would close its store in the community in September, although it planned on hiring additional associates to work through liquidation sales and the holiday season.
Pat Warner, a spokesperson for the Tractor Supply Company, said the business will fill about half of those positions when the store is in full operation.
“The store will provide about 15 new jobs to the area, with at least half of those being full time positions,” Warner said.
The interior of the store received a total face lift as well as upgrades made to the exterior and parking area.
“Out of an abundance of caution for our team members and customers, the Grayling Tractor Supply has implemented several key protective actions during the COVID-19 pandemic such as additional daily cleanings, requiring social distancing, offering contactless curbside pickup, and increasing inventory supply for essential products such as livestock feed and pet food,” Warner said.
The store manager is Scott George, who has worked for the Tractor Supply Company for three years.
Although there was talk that the location would be used as a distribution center, Warner said it will remain a retail store with room for plenty of products.
“The Grayling Tractor Supply store offers products for home improvement, agriculture, lawn and garden maintenance, livestock, equine and pet care,” Warner said.
The Grayling store is one of more than 70 stores that will open in 2020.
Warner said the business is passionate about serving its unique niche and has identified an opportunity to offer exceptional service and one-of-a-kind products to those living the “Out Here” lifestyle in the Grayling community.
“Tractor Supply is committed to providing our customers with the essential items such as animal feed, pet food and supplies, and cleaning necessities,” Warner said. “Other essential items for the rural lifestyle include pet medicines, agricultural supplies, and heating fuel along with hardware and maintenance supplies.”
“Tractor Supply Company is the largest operator of rural lifestyle retail stores in America. Founded in 1938 as a mail order tractor parts business, Tractor Supply Company (also referred to as TSC) owns and operates over 1,800 stores in 49 states supplying basic maintenance products to home, land, pet and animal owners,” according to ir.tractorsupply.com. “Based in Brentwood, Tenn., Tractor Supply is a public company whose stock is traded on The NASDAQ National Market under the symbol TSCO. Today Tractor Supply is a leading edge retailer with annual revenues of approximately $7.91 billion.”
Tractor Supply aims to fill a gap in the “niche market of farmers, horse owners, ranchers, part-time and hobby farmers, and suburban and rural homeowners, as well as contractors and tradesmen,” according to ir.tractorsupply.com. “TSC stores are located primarily in towns outlying major metropolitan markets and in rural communities. The typical Tractor Supply store has about 15,500 square feet of selling space inside, with a similar amount of outside space.”
