New pavilion unveiled at Hanson Hills Recreation Area

Grayling Recreation Authority and the Grayling Rotary Club officially unveiled the new pavilion at Hanson Hills Recreation Area – a project that the two groups have been working on for several months – during a public ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday.
“We had a great turnout for the event,” Rotary officials said. “The finished product is fabulous. We are all so thrilled with how it turned out. It’s very high quality.”
The Rotary Club and GRA have a history of collaboration on Hanson Hills projects; the club helped with the construction of both disc golf courses at Hanson Hills and the club now conducts its annual Gran Fondo bicycle event at the facility.
Justin Andre, Director of Operations for GRA, said he approached the Rotary Club and “pitched this pavilion project to them.”
“They like doing community projects,” Andre said. “Rotary had some money available to fund this project. It’s a year and a half in the making.”
Andre said GRA “always had planned building some kind of pavilion” and discussions regarding the possible project took place during the time Hanson Hills installed its current playground area a few years ago.
The official name of the new facility is the Rotary Pavilion.
“This is something we felt the recreation of the area and the community could benefit from,” Andre said.
The pavilion is open to the general public, but it must be reserved in order to conduct a special event at the facility.
“We’re looking to rent it out to different groups for grad parties, weddings, reunions, any kind of gathering or event,” Andre said.
Anyone who would like to reserve the pavilion should contact GRA at (989) 348-9266 for information on pricing and availability.
“We are very excited to have funded this project and hope that the community will know it is available for use,” Rotary officials said.
Andre said local contractors Primary Electric, McLain and Son Construction, and Jack Millikin Inc. did the work on the project and went “above and beyond” by providing various donations for the pavilion construction.
GRA is now trying to raise money to purchase picnic tables for the new Rotary Pavilion. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation for picnic tables, contact Andre via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
