Grayling welcomes new photography studio

Grayling has an abundance of photographers, with this beautiful town offering plenty of work for them all. But one thing we do not have an abundance of is photography studios. That is changing now!

Located at 4304 M-72 in Grayling, right inside of The Gift – Wellness Community, Carrie Jean has opened Goldenrod Photography Studio. If you haven’t heard of it yet, let me be the first to tell you all about it! First opening in Grayling in January of 2022, Carrie is a transplant, having been located in Bad Axe, Michigan prior to this. 

“I was a photographer there for a few years,” Carrie said. “It has been fun meeting new people, getting to know the community, and capturing special moments for local families.”

Carrie is looking forward to continuing to capture special moments in Grayling. 

“I specialize in family photography, but I also shoot a wide variety of categories,” Carrie said. “Wedding, engagement, maternity, infant, children, seniors and, of course, fur babies! I do it all!”

While Carrie does do on location photographs, what sets her apart from a lot of other photographers is her studio. 

“My studio opened in January 2022, and it is for studio sessions,” Carrie said. “AKA inside photos such as infants, children, seniors, headshots, and more. Really anything!” 

While Carrie is known for various work in the photo field, she has a few specials each year that keep her regulars coming back.

“I offer holiday minis throughout the year for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas, as well as monthly mini deals (one day per month),” Carrie said. “Holiday minis are a short, quick, themed photo session for a lower cost. The spots fill up pretty quickly.”

That being said, Carrie does have some spacing available.

But how does one get into photography as a career? 

“Taking photos has been a pasttime of mine since high school, and it continued to when I had my children, and would take pictures of their milestones. I was taking photos for a cleaning company – and cleaning as well! – and that got my wheels turning,” Carrie said. “I was able to get a better camera and started a small photo business about three years ago. Then in 2021, Goldenrod was born, with me doing it part time and working elsewhere still. Later that same year, I ended up going full time with Goldenrod. My children have inspired me the most – watching every stage of their life and wanting to capture and save every moment so I can look back on it for years to come. I want my clients to be able to do the same! If I’m able to capture memories for them, which they’ll be able to treasure for years to come, I have achieved my goal for their session.”
