Expanded Winter Fun Days festival to start this weekend
Grayling Recreation Authority’s expanded Winter Fun Days festival will begin this weekend with a fat bike race and the event’s annual chili cook-off. Both events will be held at Hanson Hills Recreation Area on Saturday, Feb. 4.
The fat bike race is a new addition to Winter Fun Days. Grayling Recreation Authority made some changes to the Winter Fun Days festival this year, adding events and spreading them out throughout several weekends in February instead of having all of them on one weekend as in previous years.
The 2017 Winter Fun Days fat bike race is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Funpromotions, a group that organizes a variety of foot races and bicycling events for Hanson Hills and many other venues in Michigan, will conduct the race. Registration will take place from 9-10:30 a.m.
According to Funpromotions, the fat bike race will feature 10-mile laps on groomed trails at Hanson Hills. There are several divisions available, and riders will have to complete one or two laps depending on their division.
The chili cook-off – presented by the Legion Auxiliary this year – is an annual Winter Fun Days event. The cook-off, which gives participants the opportunity to sample several local chilis and vote for their favorites, is scheduled for 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Other upcoming Winter Fun Days events will include the Grayling Youth Booster Club’s Blizzardfest (free tubing and a euchre tournament), Grayling Recreation Authority’s annual Big Air Competition, the Cardboard Sled Box Race (with a Star Wars theme), and a 14K cross country ski race.
