Donations and arrangements can be made for 28th annual Crawford AuSable Thanksgiving Day Dinner

With all the Halloween candy given out and votes tallied, it’s time for Crawford County residents to focus on getting Thanksgiving Day meals to people in need.
The 28th annual Crawford AuSable Thanksgiving Dinner will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Grayling Army Airfield.
“We are fortunate to live in a community that is so giving and caring. Volunteers and donations come from not only Grayling and Crawford County, but outside of our county,” said Patty Crandall, the director of planning for the Crawford AuSable Thanksgiving Dinner.
All of the money goes to pay for the food, equipment that needs to be replaced on occasion, and all of the containers used for deliveries and the supplies for dining at the airfield.
Sixty-four turkeys will be donated for the feast from Family Fare of Grayling, which is the maximum oven space the military can provide to roast the birds.
Organizers and volunteers plan to serve and deliver over 1,000 meals.
“That’s what we’re aiming to be ready for,” Crandall said. “All of our key people are anxious and ready to come back and help out along with the rest of the volunteers that we look forward to.”
If you would like to donate to help with the event, you can send your check to C.A.T.D. P.O. Box 247, Grayling, MI 49738. If you are a business that would like to donate, make a note with your donation if you would like your business name published in the Crawford County Avalanche as a donor.
This is Crandall’s sixth year serving as director for the Crawford AuSable Thanksgiving Dinner.
“It has become what Thanksgiving is about for me,” she said.
