Animal Shelter working on golf outing fundraiser, memorial gardens

Annual Putt’n Fore Pets event slated for Saturday, June 11, at the Grayling Country Club
The AuSable Valley Animal Shelter is trying to increase its public presence and fundraising efforts, according to a presentation by shelter officials to the Crawford County Board of Commissioners last week, including an upcoming golf outing and a memorial project.
Linda Barber, AuSable Valley Animal Shelter board member, during the May 12 county board meeting, said the facility has “had some rough bumps over the last four years” but shelter officials and staff members are “looking forward to a wonderful year.”
Barber said the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter staff and director “are hard at work making sure our shelter is safe and sanitary and very clean.”
“We continue to work to improve,” Barber said.
The Putt’n Fore Pets Golf Outing is slated for Saturday, June 11, at the Grayling Country Club with registration starting at 9 a.m. and golfing beginning at 10 a.m. Teams can register for the event online at Cost to participate is $240 per four-person team (includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, and dinner), according to the shelter’s website.
The shelter is also planning a tribute to Sharon Priebe, Crawford County District #2 Commissioner who passed away in August of 2021. Priebe was known for her work with the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter.
“We’re now in the process of establishing memorial gardens at the shelter,” Barber said. “We know how important (Sharon) was to the community and certainly to the shelter. The memories of what she did for the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter will never be forgotten.”
Barber said shelter officials are also working on a tribute to the Wright family, a music festival, an autumn Paddle For Pets event, and a possible dinner theater.
“We’re trying to keep everything positive,” Barber said.
