Blood drive to be held on Tuesday - The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, along with the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center, are hosting a Michigan Blood Drive on Tuesday, December 4, from 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Appointments are preferred by contacting 1-866-MIBLOOD (642-5663) or The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. 
Cards for Soldiers event slated for Friday - Cards for Soldiers and the American Legion Auxiliary #106 will host an event to sign cards for our troops/veterans on Friday, November 30, at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 106 (106 S. James Street). The event will include accepting of donations (greeting cards, candy, pens, stationary, envelopes, small pocket sized notebooks), donations for postage to mail the cards, and supplies to the troops and veterans. Cards to sign (get well, holiday, and thank you) will be provided. You can drop off donations at the American Legion ahead of time or stop in to sign some cards before or after the event. Senior Center to host Christmas carol event - Christmas carols will be ringing from the walls of the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center on Tuesday, December 4, at 5:45 p.m. This free Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long will be led by vocalist Pat Fowler and pianist Mari Ann Henion. Enjoy a Mediterranean chicken dinner served from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Suggested donation for seniors 60 and over is $3.50. The cost for those under 60 is $5.50 per person. Movie event to raise money for youth skiing - Grayling Recreation Authority will be conducting a viewing event for Warren Miller’s “Face of Winter” – a film about extreme skiing – at the Rialto Theater on Saturday, December 1, to help raise money for the Hanson Hills Recreation Area’s youth skiing program. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 3:30 p.m. Tickets ($20 apiece) are currently available at Flowers by Josie and Hanson Hills Recreation Area. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the movie. Price of the ticket includes entry into a drawing that will feature several prizes. It is not necessary to be present to win. The event will also feature a bucket raffle. Michigan Main Street will be selling select craft beers and wine at the event.
Assistance available for Medicare enrollment - The Annual Open Enrollment period for Medicare beneficiaries is ending December 7. Prescription Drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans change every year. The change can be as simple as a change in the premium amount or be as extensive as having not as many covered medications. It is vital for every Medicare recipient to review his/her coverage and be certain that the plan you have for 2019 is the best plan for you. The Commission on Aging a& Senior Center is providing free counseling services to enable beneficiaries to make the best possible decisions. A trained certified counselor will help you review your options and determine what is covered and what costs you will likely incur throughout the year. Christmas concert, party to be held - The community is invited to a Christmas Concert followed by a Christmas Party on Thursday, December 6, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center. The choir from Mt. Hope Lutheran Church will be bringing joyous music of the season for your listening pleasure. Then at 6 p.m. enjoy some holiday cheer with a Christmas Party including a Christmas tree transformation, charades, Christmas song contest, and more. Dinner is from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $5.50 for those under 60 and a suggested $3.50 donation for those 60 and over. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. Boy Scouts to conduct open house - Boy Scout Troop 9979 is having an open house/informational meeting for all kids between the ages of 11 and 17 on December 4 at 7 p.m. at Goodale’s Bakery. If you have questions, contact Rob at (989) 370-5451.
Veterans can get ride to VA hospital - Veterans living in Crawford, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Otsego, or Ogemaw counties can arrange to be picked up along the I-75 corridor for a ride to the VA hospital by a Disabled American Veterans van. Call the Veterans Service Office at (989) 344-3861.
