COA to host Thanksgiving Dinner - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 4-6 p.m.  Meal will feature turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, peas and pearl onions, ambrosia salad, and pumpkin pie. The cost of the dinner is $5 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 years of age or older. Dinner is open to the public. No reservations are required. TEFAP food distribution to be held - The quarterly TEFAP food distribution will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, at the American Legion (106 James Street) from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please bring identification showing current address. Line up at the back door. Please bring someone to help carry your bags if necessary.
American Legion Auxiliary to meet - The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Tuesday, Nov. 14. The group meets once a month on the second Tuesday of each month.
Frederic Satellite Meal slated for Nov. 10 - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal on Friday, Nov. 10, at 12 p.m. at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes baked ham, baked sweet potato, green beans, and applesauce. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation today. Senior Center to host breakfast presentation - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will host a free Munson breakfast presentation on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 9 a.m. The topic will be Dealing with Loss & Grief during the Holiday Season, featuring Bailey Burgess, MSW, Social Worker, from Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital, Resource Coordination Department.  Join Burgess to learn more about coping with grief and loss during the holiday season, as well as tips to help manage the challenges. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, raisin muffins, juice, and coffee. The breakfast and presentation will be held at the Senior Center, 308 Lawndale Street. DHHS assistance available - DHHS assistance appointments are available at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center. Diane Howland, Eligibility Specialist from Crawford County Department of Health and Human Services, will be at the Senior Center on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to take appointments. Howland will be available to meet with individuals to explain DHHS Assistance Programs, answer questions regarding eligibility requirements, case specific questions, and take applications for assistance. Half hour appointments are available by calling (989) 348-7123. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street.
Soup Supper to be held at American Legion - The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 106 will host an “all you can eat” Soup Supper on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Grayling American Legion (106 S. James Street). There will be several varieties of soup to choose from. Cost is $8 for people ages 13 and up, $6 for people ages 6-12, and free for children ages 5 and under. Proceeds will be used to support area veterans and their families.
Cross trainer demo to be held - NuStep, the world’s first recumbent cross trainer, is coming to the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center. The workout machine gives users access to a low-impact, total-body cardio and strength workout from a safe, seated position. NuStep is ideal for healthy users focused on active aging, for the frail or those with mobility issues, and those recovering from joint replacement, surgery, cardiac event, or stroke. For a demonstration and training, join Shawn Armiak from NuStep on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Senior Center. After Nov. 7, the NuStep will be available for use during normal business hours. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. For more information call (989) 348-7123.
