Senior Center to host Halloween Party - The Crawford County Commission on Aging will host a Halloween Party on October 31 at 5 p.m. at the Senior Center (308 Lawndale).  Begin the party with a dinner of chicken cobweb fettucini alfredo, scary tossed salad, sugar snap peas with bulging eyeballs, and spooky strawberries. Come dressed in your best costume; prizes will be given for the most original, funniest, ugliest, and prettiest costumes. Other contests include Candy Corn Jar and Guess the Senior. There will also be a surprise which will make it a night of spooky fun. The cost for the dinner is a suggested $3 donation for seniors 60 and older and a $5 cost for those under 60. Blood Drive slated for Nov. 1 - An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the American Legion on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, or to set up an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org (sponsor code: GraylingAL) or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
 
Animal Shelter board meeting to be held - An AuSable Valley Animal Shelter board meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion. (The meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month.) Members in good standing are welcome to attend. ResLife to host Men’s Breakfast - Resurrection Life Center – located at 2640 W. M-72 – will host its next Men’s Breakfast at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. The event will feature guest speaker Matt Bowman of Eternity Art. RSVP to ResLife at (989) 348-1000.
 
Medicare counselling available - The Annual Open Enrollment period for Medicare beneficiaries began October 15 and will continue through December 7. Prescription Drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans change every year. The Commission on Aging and Senior Center is providing free counselling services to enable beneficiaries to make the best possible decisions.  A trained certified counselor will help you review your options and determine what is covered and what costs you will likely incur throughout the year. Sign up for Smart911 - The Crawford County Commission on Aging is offering another opportunity to sign up for the Smart911 Program on Wednesday, Nov. 1,  from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Smart911 is a free, new service available in the area to help you when you call 9-1-1. Once you’ve signed up, first responders will be aware of important information you have provided that will help them address your emergency.  This information – including medical issues, current location and even pets – can help Police, Fire and EMS locate and help you.
