Fall Work Weekend to be held - Forbush Corner, located at 4971 W. Co. Road 612 in Frederic, will conduct an annual Fall Work Weekend on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Lunch will be provided both days. Some ski shop lodging options will be available; send an email to to check on availability. Please bring work gloves and pruners (if you have them). Forbush Corner will be offering volunteers either a free day pass or $10 off a season pass for each work day (up to three day passes or $30 off a season pass total). Last chance to visit Lovells exhibit - The Lovells Township Historical Society’s 2017 season is coming to an end this Friday and Saturday, so this weekend is your last chance to visit the “Art Neumann – From WANIGAS to Trout Unlimited: Celebrating a Michigan Trout Fishing Legend Exhibit.” The Lovells museums are open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 30. Shrine Club to start potato sale - The AuSable Shrine Club will start selling 10-pound bags of russet potatoes from Posen on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Diane’s Car Wash. Price is $5 per bag. Questions? Call Joe at (989) 324-7051.
COA to conduct Smart Driver Course - The AARP in conjunction with the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center is offering a AARP Smart Driver Course at the Free Methodist Church, located at 6352 West M-72, on Oct. 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members (all course materials are included in the cost). A certificate will be issued and some insurance companies offer a discount if you complete the course. Participants need to bring their valid Michigan driver’s license and AARP card if they have one.  Lunch will not be provided; however, participants can bring their own snacks and drink. Lunch will be held at the Senior Center at 12 p.m. Lunch for those 60 and over is a suggested $3 donation and those under 60 is a $5 charge. Blessing of the Animals set for Sunday - Blessing of the Animals will take place at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Grayling on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. Bring pets on a leash or in a cage. If you are not comfortable bringing a pet, bring a picture. Cost is a free will donation to the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter.
Hunter Education Class to start - A 2017 Hunter Education Class slated to start on Wednesday, Sept. 27, will give hunters an opportunity to get their orange card through the Grayling Sportsman Club. Participants must pre-register by calling (989) 348-1202.
