Registration for golf league set for May 14 - Registration for the Chicks With Sticks golf league will be held on May 14 at 5 p.m. at the Grayling Country Club.  There will be a short meeting followed by complimentary golf. There is no registration cost for the league, only greens fees payable each week to the Grayling Country Club. This is a fun, relaxing league meant for both beginners and seasoned golfers. League of Women Voters to meet - The League of Women Voters Crawford County Unit will meet on Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. in the Nature Center (next to the American Legion). The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Lovells Satellite Meal set for May 18 - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Lovells Satellite Meal on Friday, May 18, at 12 p.m. at the Lovells Township Hall. The lunch includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas, and peaches. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. Munson, COA offer breakfast presentation - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will host a free Munson breakfast presentation on Tuesday, May 15, at 9 a.m. The topic will be “Living with a Chronic Disease: Joy in the Journey,” featuring Cheryl Howard, RN, Chronic Disease Care Manager at Munson Healthcare Graying Physician Network. Breakfast includes omelets to order, golden hashbrowns, muffins, mixed fruit, juice, and coffee. The breakfast and presentation is free and open to everyone. Artisan Village to host free concert - The Jazzed Because Quartet will once again take the stage at the Artisan Village on Wednesday, May 16, from 7-9 p.m. Come out for an evening of fun and entertainment as the JBQ performs their own style of jazz. Seniors to take trip to Lansing - On Wednesday, May 16, join the Commission on Aging staff and other older adults from Crawford County as they head for Lansing for Older Michiganians Day. This free event takes place on the lawn of the Capitol building where older adults will have the opportunity to meet their state legislative representatives and advocate for issues impacting older Michigan residents. This year’s hot-button platform issues are: Support the Direct Care Workforce, Prevent Elder Abuse, Support AASA In-Home Services, and Preserve and Protect MI Choice. Church to welcome guest pastor for event - Bear Lake Christian Church will welcome Pastor Duane Vander Klok for a special message on Wednesday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. The church is located at 221 East Bear Lake Road halfway between Grayling and Kalkaska. Vander Klok is the Lead Pastor of Resurrection Life Church in Grandville and host of the weekly television outreach program “Walking By Faith.”
COA, Huron Pines to conduct gardening event - Join Huron Pines and local health and wellness partners at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center on Thursday, May 17, at 6 p.m. to discuss how gardening improves human health as well as the health of natural resources. Come and give your input about the revitalization of the Crawford County Community Garden Friends. Learn ways you can help and or volunteer for several upcoming garden projects. You will also have the opportunity to sign up for a garden plot which are available free of charge to Crawford County residents.    The Crawford County  Commission on Aging is located at 308 Lawndale Street. Chair Yoga available on May 17 - Chair Yoga will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 6 p.m. at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center. Chair Yoga aims to give you the experience of classical yoga, even if you have mobility issues or find regular yoga challenging. Join instructor Nicole Wethington and enjoy the many benefits of yoga without sitting or lying on the floor. The class is free and open to the public.
