Senior Center to host Chinese New Year event - Join the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center as it celebrates the Chinese New Year on February 21 at 5:45 p.m. Enjoy an evening of Chinese New Year traditions with fresh flower giveaways, bean bag toss, dragons, Chinese head bands, chop sticks, and dessert. Enjoy a beef pot pie dinner before the party from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Those 60 and older eat for a suggested donation of $3.50. Those under 60 can eat for a cost of $5.50. League of Women Voters to meet - The League of Women Voters Crawford County Unit will meet on Tuesday, February 19, at 7 p.m. in the Nature Center (next to the American Legion). The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Free Divorce Clinic offered in Grayling - A Free Divorce Clinic – sponsored by the 46th Circuit Court Family Division, Legal Services of Northern Michigan, Local County Bar Association, and Community Mediation Services – will be held at the Crawford County Courthouse on Thursday, February 21, at 5:30 p.m. Clinic includes free step by step directions to file for divorce and free legal answers for any questions you may have. The clinic will also be held in Grayling on April 18, June 20, August 15, October 17, and December 19. Gaylord sessions of the clinic – to be held at 5:30 p.m. at the United Way Building – will be conducted on March 21, May 16, July 18, September 19, and November 21. Coffee hour for veterans to be held - The Crawford County Veteran’s Service Office will be hosting a coffee hour on the second Thursday of each month. The next meeting will take place at American Legion Post #106 on Thursday, February 14, from 9-10 a.m. Coffee, tea, and doughnuts will be provided free of charge. This is an event for veterans to meet and talk with each other. It will be a social setting with no formal speeches or agenda. All veterans are welcome. Self-Defense Class offered - A Self-Defense Class from 2019 Project Graduation will be conducted at the Grayling Middle School on Monday, February 25. Session 1 (for middle school and high school students) will be from 3:30-5 p.m. and Session 2 (for high school students and adults) is slated for 5:15-6:45 p.m. Cost to participate is $20. Registration forms are available at the main offices at Grayling Middle School or Grayling High School. Registration deadline is February 22.
COA to make trip to New Orleans - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is joining the Bellaire Senior Center on a trip to New Orleans. This nine-day trip is scheduled from May 18 through May 26, 2019. The cost of the trip is $815 per person, which includes motor coach transportation, eight nights lodging with four consecutive nights in the New Orleans area, 14 meals (eight breakfasts and six dinners), guided tour of New Orleans, admission to the National World War ll Museum, guided tour of a Louisiana Plantation, admission to Mardi Gras World, Relaxing Riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River, time in the Historic New Orleans French Quarter, and much more. $75 is due upon signing and the final payment is due March 11, 2019.
