Blizzardfest to be held at Hanson Hills - Grayling Recreation Authority will conduct Blizzardfest – its new winter festival (replacing Winter Fun Days) – on February 9 and 10. The event will include a free tubing session from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 9. The Grayling Youth Booster Club will conduct a Beer Tent from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 9. A chili cook-off featuring entries from amateur cooks will be held in the archery building at Hanson Hills from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on February 9. The Blizzardfest Winter Downhill Canoe/Kayak Chute-Out – people racing down the tubing hills in canoes or kayaks – will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on February 9. On Sunday, February 10, Blizzardfest will feature the Big Air Competition at noon.
Artisan Village to host free concert - Dharma Records USA and Artisan Village will present their first concert of 2019 on a new day of the week, Thursday, February 14, from 7-9 p.m. Come out and enjoy the music and entertainment of local favorite Al Bondar and friends. Lovells Satellite Meal to be held - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Lovells Satellite Meal on Friday, February 15, at 12 p.m. at the Lovells Township Hall. The lunch includes pot roast, boiled potatoes, green beans, and an apple. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3.50 for those 60 and over and a $5.50 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. Lunch shopping trip to Gaylord offered - On the third of Friday every month, Dial-a-Ride will be making its monthly trip to Gaylord for anyone who would like to attend. The trip will include lunch (self-pay) at different restaurants around Gaylord and a trip to the Walmart Plaza for shopping. The cost of the trip is $10 per person. Bus will leave Grayling at 10:30 a.m. Lunch in Gaylord will be around 11:30 a.m. Shopping will be from approximately 12:30 p.m. to 2:00/2:30 p.m. The passengers for the next month’s trip will choose a different restaurant. The bus will be parked in the Walmart lot so if you are done shopping early, you can get back on the bus. Due to limited parking at the COA, passengers will be picked up at the Mini Mall at 10:30 a.m. Park on the south side of the car wash and wait in the car for the bus to arrive. The bus will then travel to Frederic and pick up people at the Frederic Township Hall between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Park on the north end of the parking lot in Frederic. Senior Center to host Valentine’s Day Dinner - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center’s Valentine’s Day Dinner on Thursday, February 14, from 4-6 p.m. Dinner will feature prime rib au jus, parmesan baked potato, roasted green beans, tomato and basil couscous salad, and triple berry crumble. The suggested donation for seniors 60 and over is $3.50. The price for those under 60 is $5.50. Dinner is open to the public. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. TEFAP food distribution to be held - The quarterly TEFAP food distribution will be held on Monday, February 11, at the American Legion (106 James Street) from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please bring identification showing current address. Line up at the back door. Bring someone to help carry your bags if necessary.
Kirtland Garden Club to meet - The Kirtland Garden Club, a local group, will conduct its February meeting on Monday, February 18, at 12 p.m. at the Houghton Lake Public Library in Prudenville. Sarah Rautio, MSU Consumer Horticulture Educator, will speak on garden design on a recent European trip. The presentation begins in Windsor, UK, some rural areas in France to include Monet’s Gardens in Giverny, Les Jardins du Boisdes Moutiers, Normany, plus two French chateaus.
