Presentation topic is eye care - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center will host a free breakfast presentation on Tuesday, January 29, at 9 a.m. The topic will be Protecting Your Aging Eyes, featuring guest speaker Dr. Lindsay Wade, Optometrist at AuSable Eye Care. Protecting your vision—at any age—starts with little things like guarding against physical injury and being smart about the sun. Breakfast includes an omelet station, hash browns, muffins, mixed fruit, juice, and coffee. The breakfast and presentation will be held at the Senior Center, 308 Lawndale Street. Cooking class for teens offered - Cooking Matter for Teens, a class to teach adolescents in 6th grade and above how to make healthy food choices and prepare healthy meals and snacks, will be held on Thursdays from January 24 through March 21 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Crawford County Courthouse (200 W. Veterans can get ride to VA hospital - Veterans living in Crawford, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Otsego, or Ogemaw counties can arrange to be picked up along the I-75 corridor for a ride to the VA hospital by a Disabled American Veterans van. Call the Veterans Service Office at (989) 344-3861.
Learn about retirement planning - Join us at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center, 308 Lawndale Street in Grayling on Thursday, January 31, at 5:45 p.m. for a presentation about retirement planning. Retirement now or in the future may look different from the retirement our parents or grandparents may have had. Are you planning to retire sometime in the next 10-15 years? If you are, there are many things you need to consider. Among these are Social Security, healthcare, housing, and more. Join Karl Schreiner, Advocacy & Resource Coordinator, to discuss the basics of retirement. Prior to the presentation enjoy a beef tips dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Those 60 and older eat for a suggested donation of $3.50. Those under 60 can eat for a cost of $5.50.
